Lafia, Nasarawa State – In a shocking turn of events, Doma Local Government Area defeated defending champions Wamba Local Government Area 1-0 in the opening match of the 2nd edition of the Nasarawa State U-13 Inter-Primary School Boys’ Football Tournament on Monday, May 20, at the Lafia City Stadium.

Doma, who exited the tournament in the group stage last year, was considered an underdog against Wamba, the pre-tournament favorite. However, Ahmed Mohammed Chese’s penalty kick in extra time secured the win for Doma, sending their fans into jubilation.

The match was part of the Group A fixtures, which also includes Nasarawa Local Government Area. Despite Wamba’s early dominance, Doma gained momentum and had a goal disallowed for offside before scoring the winner.

The tournament, organized by the Aliyu Bello Charity Foundation, features 12 Local Government Areas competing in four groups. The opening ceremony was attended by all participating teams, with Hon. Aliyu Bello, the chief organizer, and other dignitaries in attendance.

Tuesday’s matches will see Kokona Local Government Area face Nasarawa-Eggon Local Government Area in Group B, Lafia Local Government Area take on Akwanga Local Government Area in Group C, and Karu Local Government Area face Keana Local Government Area in Group D.

The tournament will run for one week, with the final scheduled for May 27. Toto Local Government Area has withdrawn from the competition for the second year in a row.
